As a family-owned sand and gravel quarry, EKA Quarry Products produces various aggregates and building materials. In today’s blog post, we will discuss different areas of a quarry, specifically, what a quarry is and what EKA Quarry Products produce.

What Is A Quarry?

A quarry is a place, typically a large location, with an open-pit mine in which different materials are excavated from the ground. Different materials are extracted by cutting, digging, wedging or blasting.

What Types Of Materials Are Extracted From Quarries?

A variety of rocks can be extracted from quarries. Different quarries will produce a variety of different materials; however, typical produce includes sand and aggregate. Common materials extracted from quarries can consist of:

  • Chalk
  • Marble
  • Limestone
  • Clay
  • Sandstone
  • Slate
  • Quartz
  • Gritstone
  • Coal

There are different types of sand options, and you might notice that each quarry has a set list of sand options. EKA Quarry Products offer a variety of sand options, including 50/50 building sand, in a range of colours, such as yellow, red and silver. We also have paving grit sand and pointing sand available, which is also available in different colours.

We also have a range of aggregate and hardcore, which includes 10mm and 20mm concreting ballast, 40mm drainage stone, 2/10 pipe bedding and MOT type 1 803, to name a few.

Uses Of Decorative Aggregates

There are different reasons why you might select decorative stones from our aggregate collection. For example, decorative aggregates can help improve drainage, as water can run through them into the ground. You could also use decorative aggregates for landscaping different parts of a garden, as they can surround different plants, deter weeds, or they can add a new border to a pond.

Decorative aggregates are also commonly used to create garden pathways, as they can be a cost-effective and durable alternative. You could also use this material to resurface a driveway to liven up the space and make the property more inviting.
